In the event that our numbers drop below 11 we reserve the right to combine them into one class. Separate awards will be given for high point of the day and year if 2 groups are maintained.

  • The Novice division is for beginner riders who have limited or no show experience. NOVICE is for riders who need to build confidence and experience in the ring. These classes are generally smaller in size therefore may be less intimidating and potentially safer for the beginner rider.  This disqualifies competitors who have shown over fences the previous year. Novice riders may show over fences only if it is their 1st year competing over fences. If they do show over fences, they may not show novice in any subsequent year.

  • All RIDERS IN THE NOVICE DIVISION MUST WEAR AN APPROVED ASTM/SEI HELMET IN ALL CLASSES INCLUDING THE WESTERN DIVISION.

  • Pony riders must be 18 years & under.

  • Riders may show in Showmanship classes.

  • Riders in this division are not eligible to show in any WALK/TROT classes.

  • To determine when a rider is no longer a Novice, the following rules have been put in effect. As Novice riders may show in other divisions, youth, adult or open, ALL the points from ALL the categories are added together. Once a rider has reached 75 points they will no longer be eligible to show in Novice the following years.

  • Two handed riding for a western horse is allowed in this division.

GAME CLASSES:

  • All riders regardless of age must wear approved helmets. This includes western riders.

  • Any rider who removes his or her helmet prior to BOTH FEET BEING ON THE GROUND while in the show ring will be eliminated.

OVER FENCES

  • Novice riders may show over fences only if it is their 1st year competing over fences. If a novice rider does show over fences they may not show in the novice division in any subsequent year.

  • General performance hunter classes are judged based on manners, performance, way of going, and hunting soundness. A Hunter should be flowing, rhythmic, and provide a safe and comfortable ride over fences.

  • Horses are judged over fences and MAY BE jogged (from the bridles) for soundness after the class. Saddles may remain or may be removed at the discretion of the judge.

  • No riders may enter Hors Concours.

  • Horses enter the ring and leave the ring at a walk. A performance starts when a horse enters the ring and ends when the horse leaves.

  • If either a horse or rider falls they are eliminated. They may not remount in the ring.

  • The heights for ponies may not exceed 2’3’’ and horses may not exceed 3’. Not all the jumps will be at the maximum height. It is expected that a progression of jump heights would occur from the 1st show of the season to the last.

  • The courses will be posted at minimum of 30 minutes prior to the class.  The course will be based on an 11’ foot stride for the horses.

  • The judge may interrupt the ride if he/she feels the rider is unable or unfit to continue in the competition.

  • Three refusals will eliminate the rider.

  • NOTE:  In the case of disobedience, one final practice jump may be allowed
